Ljudmila Novak pripravila sprejem v podopro ljudem s posebnimi potrebami
"Dear guests, allow me to warmly welcome you at the reception of The European Foundation Centre which is held on the occasion of the launch of The European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
I am co-hosting this event with my colleague Alejandro Cercas, which will join us later, as he was called away for a conciliation meeting.
I am happy that nearly ninety attendees registered for this reception. They are coming from various civil society organisations – especially, of course, from disability rights organisations and then from European Institutions and various national governments.
The European Commission High Level Group on Disability held its meeting today and they have been so kind to join us, offering an opportunity for closer collaboration with the various EU member states representatives on disability.
The project we are launching today aims at promoting both the ratification and the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability through concrete grass-root level initiatives, complementing those carried out by disability rights organisations, and private and public institutions.
I believe the European Consortium of Foundations on Human Rights and Disability marks a milestone in the work of foundations active in the disability field, as it creates an innovative partnership bringing together funders, disability and human rights organisations, and other stakeholders.
We have debated the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities this Monday at the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and I am happy to say that the European Parliament is committed to ratify and implement it.
Thank you."
